Pre-prepared MSI packages are now available, to request please use the 'Contact' link above. If you would prefer to create your own pacakges then please read through the document before proceeding: - You will need to use the RM Application Wizard on your RM Connect network. This is either already set up on your network ready for use, or you will need to download it from the RM website www.rm.com (you will need your RM support login details to do this). Please also download the instructions on how to use it if required.
- You should be familiar with the RM protocol for preparing a 'clean' client machine to use to create the package. RM have provided support sheets ‘How to create a clean workstation and location’ (TEC27960) and ‘How to rebuild a workstation’ (TEC14751), for you to download from the RM website www.rm.com (you will need your RM support login details to do this).
- Check the versions of the Kar2ouche software you are planning to install. This guide covers the package creation for Kar2ouche version 3.0 software only. If any CD states version 2.1 or you are not sure if you have version 3.0 software please contact us.
- You will need the Kar2ouche registration serial numbers. The serial numbers are provided in the Kar2ouche Welcome letter that is supplied in the same parcel as your Kar2ouche software.
- We recommend that you create separate packages for each Kar2ouche software title.
- Kar2ouche requires QuickTime for multimedia functionality. You should make sure that QuickTime is allocated at some stage to all workstations, ideally before Kar2ouche is allocated to the workstations. QuickTime MSIs are available from RM, if you do not have these already.
Important: As QuickTime is not usually part of the 'clean' RM build, you will receive an error message during the package creation of Kar2ouche Composer about QuickTime. This error message can be ignored.
- Kar2ouche uses DirectX for graphical components. You should check the version of DirectX currently in use on the workstations; we ask customers to keep up-to-date with the latest versions of DirectX but RM should be able to advise you further. Please see http://support.immersiveeducation.eu/index.php?ToDo=view&questId=4&catId=32 for more information on DirectX.
- Gist read through the Kar2ouche user options to get an idea of how you can customise the Kar2ouche environment for your users.
For more information please see http://support.immersiveeducation.eu/index.php?ToDo=view&questId=16&catId=22.
- Section A is to complete the Kar2ouche Composer package. This must be completed first before you can create any Kar2ouche content title packages.
Section B is to complete the Kar2ouche content title package. If you are just adding further content titles to your current Kar2ouche application please just use this section.
Section A: How to create the Kar2ouche Composer MSI package
This section will assist you to create the Kar2ouche Composer MSI package first
1. At the server console, create a new directory (folder) called Kar2ouche on your server. This directory will be used to copy the contents of each Kar2ouche software CD for you to be able to create your package. It can be deleted at a later stage once your package is completed, depending upon your type of installation. 2. In the Kar2ouche directory, create a new directory named Composer. Copy the entire contents of the Kar2ouche Composer CD1 into the Composer directory. Note: If the autorun Kar2ouche program displays the blue Kar2ouche Installation box, following the insertion of the CD, please press the Cancel button. Once completed, remove the CD and store it somewhere safe.
3. At the 'clean' machine, log in as Packagebuilder and run the RM Application Wizard to start taking a snapshot of the client machine. Choose the option new package. A status box will appear on your screen indicating that RM Application Wizard is taking a snapshot. 4. Once the RM Application Wizard has taken the initial snapshot, you will receive a prompt to install your new software that will be part of your new Kar2ouche package. Using Windows Explorer navigate to the Kar2ouche directory on the server - do not create any new drive mappings – expand Network Neighbourhood and navigate to the Kar2ouche directory. 5. In the Kar2ouche directory you will see the Composer directory. In the Composer directory there is a file named Setup. Run (double-click) this Setup program and follow the prompts in the Kar2ouche Composer installation wizard. You will be prompted to insert your user name, company name and the Composer serial number. Your Kar2ouche Composer serial number starts with DEF- and should be inserted in uppercase letters, including the dashes where stated.
We recommend that you perform a Typical installation. This will result in a full installation of Kar2ouche on each workstation that is allocated the package. Notes: The Custom installation allows you to choose which Kar2ouche components will be installed, including DirectX, as part of the package. This may be useful for advanced use. If you do perform a Custom installation ensure that you test one package first before formally distributing the package.
As QuickTime is not usually part of the 'clean' RM build, you will receive an error message during the package creation of Kar2ouche Composer about QuickTime. This error message can be ignored. An explanation of this is provided at the beginning of this document.
6. Once the Kar2ouche Composer installation wizard has completed, you should run the Kar2ouche Composer application from the desktop or menu bar to test that it runs successfully. 7. If Kar2ouche is successfully opened and you are able to view the backgrounds, characters and props, etc. then you are ready to configure the Kar2ouche user options to customise the user environment. Information is provided at the beginning of this document about the user options and how to find out more.
Some user options you may wish to look at: - Set the save and load file paths to the home directories i.e. N: drive for the user storyboards and custom files
- Options Save Directory. Set the file path of the Kar2ouche configuration file so it is located centrally on the server, usually within the P: drive
8. You have now completed your installation of Kar2ouche Composer. Using the RM Application Wizard snapshot status box, click the button to take an ending snapshot of you client machine. 9.
